Does not use flint, fuels, gases, or batteries. Works great with wild tinder such as dry leaves. A small piece of charcoal briquette ignited and then transferred to a bundle of toilet or tissue paper also works well. I love this little fire starter, its just a great little gadget. I was shocked at how fast the Solar Fire Starter works on a sunny day. I put tender in the holder aimed the mirror at the sun and it started smoking. I think if you love interesting gadgets this will be top of the list.
