I am a person with chronic (sometimes flaring) pain and progressive weakness in my legs and lower back. There are some days that I not only can't stand up long enough to cook or do dishes, even standing long enough to fill my sports bottle with water is a daunting task. And because of the impact on my bathing needs, I live in a wheelchair-accessible apartment. This means that even when I am capable of doing things around the house on my feet, sometimes I have to bend more than my lower back can tolerate, to do basic things - like reach stuff not-that-far-back in my fridge. And my mobility issues have contributed to significant weight gain over the years. So, I really needed a stable, adjustable, roiling stool, with a high weight rating, that was fairly comfortable and went higher and lower than most. I was impressed by the price and features of this stool, in particular the wide metal base and the thick rectangular, rather than round, seat cushion. And thus far, I'm fairly impressed. The first time I sat on this stool I thought, "Well, that's awfully stiff." I really thought it would start to hurt after a short while, I was further concerned that the first time I got up off of the cushion, it looked severely compacted, like there was just no way it would ever bounce back to any semblance of its original shape. I am happy to report I was wrong on both points. I've sat on this thing for over an hour, rolling around to wash dishes, clean out the refrigerator, wipe down all the counters and my kitchen table, or to make up several reheatable meals in advance (also helpful on my really bad days).I won't say I glide around feeling like, "Wow, my backside is resting on a cloud." But after that hour+, I've never gotten up stiffer than usual, thinking, "Damn, that thing is a pain in the ash!" I've also never had to get up from it because it's hurting too much to continue sitting on it, the same cannot be said of my $200+ desk chair. As for the bounce-back-ability of the cushion, the attached pictures speak for themselves. The first 6 are what it looks like from different angles, after I've been on it for a while - when it seems impossible it'll ever spring back. The last two are what it looks like right now, an hour after I sat on it last, which is pretty much how it looked the first day I assembled it. Obviously it could end up breaking down a lot over a few weeks and months (and I'll try to remember to update if that's the case), but so far, I'm surprised at how well it does returning to its original shape..I was right on some initial observations, the first being that the faux leather seat covering was going to be a problem. I wear long-shorts around the house, but I have to pull them up a bit when I sit, to make sure my knees don't stretch out the material or tear them. Each time I get up off of the cushion, about an inch of the back of my legs ends up stuck to it, even when the A/C is on and I'm not that warm. It's fairly painful to pull myself free - at least enough that. I've bought a piece of jersey cotton that I plan to turn into a fitted-sheet-like cover for the seat, which I hope will address this problem. And while it's true that the base is fairly wide compared to other stools, it could definitely stand to be a bit wider and a little lower in it's center of gravity, with slightly better casters. I have to be really conscious on this stool, that if the wheels stick even a tiny bit I could tip over easily. I haven't tipped yet, but I've come very close several times. Also, the wheels are already starting to stick quite a bit, and I've barely had the thing two weeks. In fact, the one day I was doing dishes and a bit of water got on the floor; the stool wheels became completely stuck in certain directions, so I had to turn myself in odd ways just to push myself backwards by a foot. I'm fairly certain I am going to have to get other wheels for it, ones that are not polyethylene. Finally, the seat is certainly adjustable to many heights, but adjusting it can be a less literal pain in the ash. If I want to raise the seat, I can't be sitting on it even a little bit, as my bottom-centered weight will push it to its lowest height the second I pull the handle up. But if I want to lower it, I basically have to lay my entire upper body across the top of it and still put my back into it a bit. Even just trying to leverage it down in small increments with my forearms flat on the cushion, I can't exert enough pressure to prevent the seat from popping up, much less lower it.In a system with more finesse I'd probably give the stool a 3.6, but I definitely think it's closer to 4 star product than a 3 .For having a stool that satisfies some of my needs, without spending $200, this is a good buy. I'm sure it's serving me far better than a lot of other rolling stools on Amazon would, and overall it's made functioning in my little wheelchair-accessible, efficiency apartment a lot easier. But it could definitely use some improvements, and I will end up spending at least another $40 to make it fully functional. Which is unfortunate, given how much money I already have to spend in any given year, to get the accessibility aids I need to function independently.
